Rugs, Rugs, Rugs

Lori Fleury

My Norwegian side of my family have been: sheep herders, spinners and weavers. My knowledge has been passed down for generations through genetics. I weave traditional Krokbrog rugs. These rugs are woven on a cotton warp and wool weft. Sometimes I use natural dyes and hand spun wool.

The second type of rugs I weave are: strips of rags sewed together. For example I made a rag rug for each one of my sister's using my mom's old pants.

The third type of rugs I weave: strips of old fur coats. Aunt Helens old fur coat was my inspiration. I didn't want to see it unused in the attic. I use a wool warp, so the rugs are fire resistant. Cutting the strips can only be done outside on a calm day.
My goal is for more people to get involved upcycling old clothes.
I encourage guests to weave when they visit my studio.
